Title:  Senior FPGA Engineer

Date:  9 Oct 2026
Location:

United Kingdom, Whiteley, Hampshire, GB

About Us

DTC | A Codan Company develops advanced wireless communication technology used in some of the world’s most demanding environments.

From software defined radios and high performance wireless networks to communications for defence, uncrewed systems, government and broadcast applications, our engineers work on complex products where FPGA, software, electronics and RF come together.

We’re looking for a Senior FPGA Engineer to join our engineering team in Whiteley. If you have strong FPGA design experience and are confident working in VHDL, we’d like to hear from you. We’re flexible about the industries, devices and tools you’ve worked with.

What you’ll be working on

You’ll develop FPGA solutions for our embedded communications products, working closely with engineers across software, electronics, RF and systems.

Your work will include:

  • Designing and implementing FPGA functionality in VHDL
  • Verifying designs through simulation and testing on real hardware
  • Integrating FPGA designs with processors, embedded software and other hardware
  • Investigating design and system level issues during development and testing
  • Contributing to technical decisions from early design through to product release
  • Improving and supporting FPGA designs in existing products

You’ll be able to see your designs running on physical products and understand how they contribute to the performance of the complete communication system.

What we’re looking for

The two things we’re particularly interested in are hands-on FPGA design experience and strong VHDL skills. As this is a senior role, you should also be comfortable taking ownership of your work, solving complex problems and contributing your judgement to design discussions.

Beyond that, we’re open minded. You might have worked in communications, defence or another field entirely. You don’t need experience with our specific devices, products or applications to be considered.

Useful, but not essential

Experience in any of these areas would be helpful, but none is a requirement:

  • AMD/Xilinx devices or Vivado
  • Verilog
  • Digital signal processing, RF or software defined radio
  • High speed data paths or real-time systems
  • Embedded C/C++, Python or embedded Linux
  • MATLAB or similar modelling tools
  • Automated testing, CI/CD or source control
  • Board level hardware, schematics or laboratory test equipment
  • IP networking or secure development practices

If your strength is FPGA design in VHDL and you’re interested in applying it to wireless communications, we’d welcome your application even if much of this list is new to you.

Why DTC?

Interesting engineering
You’ll work on sophisticated wireless products alongside specialists in embedded software, electronics, RF and signal processing.

Real products, real impact
Your designs will run in communication systems used across defence, government, uncrewed platforms and broadcast applications around the world.

Room to develop
You’ll have opportunities to deepen your FPGA expertise and build knowledge in new areas of communications technology.
