What will you be doing?

 

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Buyer is responsible for ensuring that materials and components are purchased in line with production schedules and customer demands. This is a hands-on, detail-focused role in fast-paced electronics manufacturing environment, requiring strong supplier management, data analysis, and purchasing skills.

 

Working closely with Engineering, Planning, Production, and Logistics teams, the Buyer ensures that supply chain performance meets the company’s delivery, quality, and cost targets. Core procurement categories include PCB assemblies, electronic components, cable assemblies, and machined/fabricated metalwork.

 

The successful candidate will take ownership of purchase order management across MRP and non-MRP processes, maintaining the accuracy of the order book, resolving delivery issues proactively, and holding suppliers to account for performance and compliance. This role is also expected to contribute to cost-saving initiatives and continuous improvement across the procurement function.

 

Key Responsibilities Include:

 

  • Placing and managing purchase orders across key categories to ensure on-time, in-full delivery.
  • Converting requisitions into competitive purchase orders that meet all specifications and value requirements.
  • Aligning open order books with both internal systems and supplier commitments.
  • Ensuring supplier accountability through regular communication and escalation where needed.
  • Supporting the resolution of quality issues and working with vendors to drive improvement.
  • Maintaining accurate procurement KPIs and reporting, ensuring internal targets are consistently met.
  • Conducting formal supplier reviews and occasional site visits as needed while also contributing to cost reduction, lead-time improvements, and supply chain risk mitigation initiatives.

 

 

About You:

 

The ideal candidate will have solid purchasing experience in a technical manufacturing environment, ideally within electronics or mechanical engineering. A proactive mindset, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage supplier performance are key to success in this role.

 

We're particularly interested in candidates with:

 

  • Demonstrable buying experience in a manufacturing or engineering setting.
  • Exposure to international supply chains and vendor management.
  • Knowledge of PCB assemblies, electronic components, and cable or metalwork procurement.
  • Experience working with MRP/ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics preferred).
  • Strong Excel skills and the ability to analyse data to support decision-making.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • CIPS part-qualified or equivalent experience is desirable.

 

This role requires eligibility for UK Security Clearance to ‘SC’ level and a willingness to work outside of standard hours, including occasional travel to supplier locations locally, nationally, and internationally.
