About the Role

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will play a critical leadership role in the design and development of advanced mechanical systems supporting mission-critical communications technology. Working within a high-performing engineering team, you will lead mechanical design activities, influence product architecture, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, high-reliability solutions that meet demanding military and environmental standards.

This role offers the opportunity to combine hands-on technical expertise with leadership, mentoring junior engineers while driving innovation across the full product lifecycle. You will work closely with R&D, testing, manufacturing, and customer service teams to ensure successful product outcomes in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design activities for enclosures, chassis, thermal solutions and structural components
  • Drive architecture decisions and establish mechanical design strategies for new and existing products
  • Perform advanced CAD modelling, tolerance analysis and design documentation
  • Conduct structural, thermal and vibration analysis to meet MIL-STD requirements
  • Collaborate with electrical and software teams to integrate components into rugged assemblies
  • Oversee prototype builds, validation testing and design qualification
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across design reviews
  • Lead cross-functional design reviews with engineering and product teams
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for mechanical issues
  • Partner with suppliers and manufacturing teams to optimise design for cost, reliability and manufacturability
  • Support testing, field evaluations and supplier engagement as required

About You

You are an experienced mechanical engineer with a strong background in the design of complex, high-reliability systems, ideally within electronics, communications or ruggedised environments. You bring deep technical expertise in mechanical design, combined with the ability to lead projects, influence design decisions and mentor others.

You have strong capability in 3D CAD tools and a solid understanding of materials, manufacturing processes and thermal management principles. Your experience includes working across the full product lifecycle, from concept through to validation and production, with a focus on delivering robust, high-quality outcomes.

You are collaborative and pragmatic in your approach, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams. A strong problem-solving mindset, attention to detail and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment will be key to success in this role. Experience working to military or environmental standards, or within highly regulated industries, will be highly regarded.

U.S. citizenship is required and the successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
