About the Role

We’re seeking a skilled and hands-on Test Development Engineer to take a key role in designing and developing the electronic hardware and systems that support our global manufacturing operations. Reporting to the Test Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for creating the test equipment, PCB assemblies, and fixtures that ensure our products meet the highest levels of quality and performance.

This role is strongly hardware-focused, ideal for an engineer who enjoys circuit design, PCB development, and bringing practical test equipment to life on the manufacturing floor. While LabVIEW experience is valued, your core strength will be in electronics design and your ability to translate engineering specifications into reliable, scalable test systems. You’ll work across the full product lifecycle from new product introduction (NPI) through to sustaining and improving existing test infrastructure.

This is a full-time, onsite role based at Mawson Lakes, with travel to our Malaysia manufacturing site twice per year for approximately two weeks during each visit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design electronic hardware, PCB assemblies, and test fixtures used in manufacturing test equipment.
  • Develop automated and manual test solutions for PCBAs, embedded systems, and final assemblies.
  • Prepare test requirements, test plans, and strategies supporting NPI through to mass production.
  • Create high-quality schematics and PCB layouts using Altium Designer.
  • Implement and maintain LabVIEW-based test applications.
  • Install, commission, and optimise manufacturing test systems, jigs, fixtures, and instrumentation.
  • Analyse test and manufacturing data to verify quality, performance, and process capability.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing teams and collaborate with design engineers on product issues.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective or preventive actions.
  • Drive continuous improvement in test processes, equipment capability, and throughput.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, SOPs, and work instructions.
  • Train technicians and support personnel on test systems and equipment.

About You

You will hold a bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related discipline, with strong experience in electronics hardware design for manufacturing test environments. You’ll be proficient in Altium Designer and confident designing circuits, PCBs, and test fixtures for high-reliability production.

You bring practical experience with test instrumentation, measurement techniques, and automated test development, ideally including LabVIEW. Experience with bed-of-nails fixtures, functional testers, embedded systems, or PCBA-level test is highly regarded.

You’re an analytical and hands-on engineer who can diagnose complex issues, manage competing priorities, and collaborate effectively across teams. Strong communication skills, a proactive mindset, and a commitment to quality will help you thrive in this role.

This is an excellent opportunity to own the development of manufacturing test solutions, support global NPI activity, and contribute to Minelab’s world-class product performance.

Benefits and Culture

Our culture is supportive and collaborative. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team where we share our ideas and innovation is strongly encouraged.  We are looking for someone with genuine passion and can-do attitude for what they do.

Our Head office is located in Mawson Lakes offering a spacious, modern facility, free secure onsite parking, easy access via public transport, and an onsite subsidised café. We also have recreational facilities including a gym, basketball and tennis court, as well as various game tables. Additionally, our staff are provided flexibility to meet the demands of family life, a child-friendly parenting room, and a variety of staff events to connect with colleagues across the Codan Group.
