What will you be doing?

 

The successful applicant will be responsible for managing and completing the mechanical engineering product design for Minelab projects, from concept, through prototyping, testing/verification, production implementation, and ongoing product support.

 

As a key member of the team, you must be able to:

 

  • Carry out mechanical design and create specifications for projects.
  • Allocate project team tasks and provide peer review to optimise the product quality and efficiency of delivery.
  • Liaise with relevant project team members to determine design parameters and confirm they are met.
  • Provide stakeholder updates as required and adjust team priorities to meet deliverables.
  • Ensure concepts are developed with a particular focus on functionality, manufacturability, and assembly.
  • Generate conceptual designs and communicate their intent with stakeholders.
  • Research, evaluate and select appropriate materials to use in the development of products and assembly processes.
  • Help foster a collaborative mechanical engineering team and a broader project / product development team.
  • Mentor junior team members to ensure their growth as an engineer within the business.

 

 

 

What makes a successful Senior Mechanical Design Engineer?

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering (extensive experience in product design may also be considered).
  • Significant experience working in a similar role (preferably within automotive, manufacturing, industrial, electronic, defence or similar). Managerial or Team Lead experience beneficial.
  • Experience with 3D modelling and drafting of components and assemblies (Solidworks preferable).
  • Previous experience with design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA).
  • Experience designing mechanical equipment around electronic equipment used in harsh environments would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge and experience within plastic component design (injection moulded, extrusion and vacuum formed) and material selection. Composites experience desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience of metal component design (extrusions, die-castings, machined, sheet metal forming and metal fabrication) would be beneficial.
  • Experience working with suppliers, sub-contractors, and injection moulding toolmakers (desirable).
  • Understanding of engineering change processes.
  • Project Management skills (desirable).
