Title: Field Test Engineer
United Arab Emirates, Dubai, AE
About us
Minelab is a technology company that creates world-leading metal detectors to help humanitarian organisations clear landmines, African miners find life-changing gold nuggets, and historians to recover lost relics. We have a culture of innovation which allows us to be a leader in bringing new technology to customers across the globe. We make everything ourselves; creative design and detailed engineering are the lifeblood of developing new products at Minelab.
Excitement in the Engineering team comes from converting raw ideas into products that exceed customer’s expectations including rapid concept prototyping, architecting, detailed design, product integration, and the transition to manufacturing.
Join Minelab, part of the Codan group, an ASX listed technology company, and build the next generation of world-leading products.
About the Role
We are looking for a Field Test Engineer to join Minelab’s Systems Engineering team in Dubai, UAE.
You will take Minelab detectors into real-world environments to test product performance, measure site conditions and understand how people use our technology. Working to plans set by Systems Engineering, you will collect reliable field data and present clear findings that inform product development.
The role involves approximately four to six domestic or international field trips each year, typically lasting one to two weeks. Between trips, you will undertake local product and systems testing, organise field records and develop your knowledge of Minelab’s gold and coin and treasure detectors.
This is a practical, customer-facing opportunity for someone who enjoys technical testing, outdoor work and careful observation. A relevant technical qualification or substantial field-testing experience is welcome; an engineering degree is desirable, but not essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and complete approved field tests safely, including preparation of detectors, measurement equipment and recording tools.
- Operate existing, prototype and unreleased detectors in real-world conditions, recording settings, accessories, software and test conditions.
- Measure and document soil mineralisation, ground-balance information, salinity, electromagnetic interference and other relevant site conditions.
- Capture accurate GPS records, photographs, video and approved soil samples to support traceable field results.
- Observe how people use Minelab and competitor detectors and gather feedback on performance, usability, setup and training needs.
- Organise and validate field data, maintaining records that colleagues can search, understand and use with confidence.
- Prepare clear trip reports and presentations that explain test methods, evidence, findings and any limitations.
- Carry out local new-product and systems testing between field deployments and share findings with Systems Engineering.
- Develop practical expertise across Minelab detectors and help improve field procedures, checklists and recording methods.
- Work with regional teams, dealers and end users while protecting confidential products, results and customer information.
About You
You will bring a relevant technical certificate, diploma or trade qualification, or substantial equivalent experience in field testing. A degree in engineering, science or a related discipline would be an advantage, but is not required.
You have experience collecting and organising technical or field data, following test procedures and keeping accurate records. Experience in product validation, field research, outdoor work, geology, environmental measurement or data analysis would be valuable.
You are methodical, safety-conscious and comfortable working outdoors in remote or challenging environments. You can explain your observations clearly in written reports and presentations, engage respectfully with people from different cultures and distinguish evidence from interpretation.
Experience with metal detecting, GPS, technical field testing or customers facing technical interaction is welcome, but not essential. You will need a current driver’s licence and the ability to meet travel requirements for approved trips. Relevant first-aid, four-wheel-driving and remote-area training may be completed after appointment.
Benefits and Culture
Our culture is supportive and collaborative. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team where we share our ideas and innovation is strongly encouraged. We are looking for someone with genuine passion and can-do attitude for what they do.
Additionally, our staff are provided flexibility to meet the demands of family life and a variety of staff events to connect with colleagues across the Codan Group.
